And the Oscar Goes To...

There is one night every year, that makes me wish I was an actress for a night, and even more... a stylist. The fashion at the Academy Awards this year did not disappoint me. Of course, there were some fashion choices that made me wonder what crawled into their head and made them think leaving the house like that was okay. My favorite look of the night was the Givenchy couture dress with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry that Cate Blanchett wore. The geometrical construction of the sleeves and the high waist line added a high fashion appeal that no other dress possessed. I'm pretty sure the older Cate Blanchett gets, the better she dresses and the more Hepburn she exudes, I love it.

Not really feeling all the nude colors this year (cough cough Gwyneth Paltrow), but Mandy Moore did manage to pull it off pretty well in a Monique Lhullier gown.
The L'Wren Scott dress got some negativity, but I think the emerald jewelry really pulls the look together beautifully.
Michelle Williams somehow makes looking ghostly uber chic in Chanel couture.
And lastly, my second favorite choice of the night, was the Tom Ford lace and bedazzled dress worn by Anne Hathaway.

A Retro Day at the Beach

With summer just around the corner, and the weather getting warmer, I'm ready to go to the beach! My inspiration for this post... Barbies. When I was younger, my Mom's friend bought me a book filled with pictures about collectible vintage Barbies. I think it was ever since I got that book, I have treasured the beauty of "vintage." What I love most about the fashion of the late 1950s and early 1960s is the sexiness of modesty. Wearing a swim suit to the beach was so much more of a fashion statement, now it is a competition of who can show the most skin.  For those of you that make going to the beach not only about relaxation, but also fashion.... I commend you. To achieve this retro, day at the beach look, you will need the following: cat eye sunglasses, red lipstick (preferrably Chanel #75), a body hugging one piece swim suit with a sweet heart neckline, and if your feeling extra spontaneous add a floppy hat to protect harmful rays from your ageless skin.
